Click images to enlarge. Here's a view from the top of the property looking west toward La Grande. You can see most of the land in this photo. The roads form the eastern and southern boundaries. The fence in the middle distance with the RR tie gateposts is the western edge. You can just make out some treelimbs on the extreme right that are near the northern edge. The photo flattens everything out--we are actually looking downslope from probably 300 feet above the valley floor.

Here's our backyard--good ol' Mt. Fannie!

Another backyard view. The truck is parked on the upper (eastern) edge of the property.

Looking NW toward Mt. Emily. These are the cottonwood trees that you see just a bit of in the first photo. Our boundary is on the other side of the trees. There's a lovely little creek that flows beside the trees and is also on our land.

Looking SW toward Union. You can see the fence that forms the lower (western) edge of the property.
We're buying it from an artist and her screenwriter husband, originally from northern CA. They lived in Portland for about 6 years before moving to Cove. They were originally asking $85,000. They lowered the price to $79,500. We negotiated to $72,500 final price. (Oh, and I have to throw in a smallish painting :)
What do you think?? We're pretty excited!
Good news from Jared today, too. He's linked up with a tech job placement company in Beaverton that is going to recommend him as part of a creative programming team that will be designing software for a company called Ethicspoint.com. Good luck, Jared!! Why don't you tell us all more about it?
Love,
Mom & Dad

Congratulations!! It's beautiful!! Can't wait to see it in person! Bobby and I also found a house (finally)! Turns out we will be renting a home from a guy who used to work at Renaissance! We didn't know that until we went to look at the house and he opened the front door. :) Small world! I'll be posting a blog soon! We move in June 6th!
Congrats Mom & Dad! The pictures are beautiful!! Do you have plans yet what kind of house you are going to put on it??
Looks like you got a killer price on the land - and did some mean negotiating :)
We're really glad you are finally able to realize a long standing dream to have your own land and your own house your way!!!
Thanks Melissa. And congratulations to you guys! What are the odds you'd rent from someone who used to work at Renaissance? Is this one of the places you sent us the links to?
Thanks, Heather. It IS really beautiful there--we think one of the sweetest spots in the whole valley.
We're poring over houses and floorplans. Haven't decided yet. We're thinking of building a very open floorplan and building movable walls, so the living spaces would be almost like a loft, with all vaulted ceiling. The movable walls would be modules maybe 4' wide x 8' high x 2' thick, on rolling casters. The beds and baths would be fixed walls.
Thats great Mom and Dad! Im happy for you! Im sure it is somewhat of a relief to pin down one part of having your own home. I know the pictures do no justice, but that land is amazing -speaking from the photos-.
I seem to recall you pulling something similar years ago for acquiring land dad... trading paintings?? ring any bells? maybe i have it all wrong but something about that rings familiarity in my mind!:)
Oh and I will tell more on the job scenario when I know more or as things solidify some more... I was contacted today by some aviation company in downtown portland that needs programmers as well and have a phone interview with them tomorrow:) when it rains it pours!
Someone give me a login or help me to be part of this family blog team:)
